What Does it Mean to Take the Lord's Supper In an Unworthy Manner? (1 Corinthians 11)

"Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord." 1 Corinthinans 11:27

"Notice it says whoever eats in an unworthy manner. It does not say whoever eats without being worthy. No one is worthy. That’s the whole point." ~ Paul Washer

Many people (including myself most of my Christian life) take communion with a catholic mindset as if we can clean ourselves up before a holy God. When we take The Lord's Supper with this thinking, we don't really understand how wretched we are and Christ's finished atonement.   This 35 minute sermon by Paul Washer set me free from my misunderstanding of 1 Corinthians 11.
