More fit to be called a devil, than a parent - Richard Baxter

Richard Baxter was a prominant preacher in England in the 1600's and he believed in family worship. He went to every home of his church and taught the parents how to have family worship.

How Firm a Foundation

I've been going through quite a trial the past month or two. At church yesterday we sang this hymn published in 1787 by John Rippon. I found it to be an encouragement.

1. "How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
 is laid for your faith in his excellent word!
 What more can he say than to you he hath said,
 to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

2. "Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
 for I am thy God and will still give thee aid;
 I'll strengthen and help thee, and cause thee to stand
 upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

3. "When through deep waters I call thee to go,
 the rivers of woe shall not thee overflow;
 for I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
 and sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

4. "When through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie,
 my grace, all-sufficient, shall be thy supply;
 the flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
 thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

Safe In His Wings

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust!”

For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper
And from the deadly pestilence.

He will cover you with His pinions,
And under His wings you may seek refuge;
His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark. Psalm 91:1-4

On letting our light shine in the political realm...

"Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience. ..."Romans 13:1-7

"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way." 1 Timothy 2:1-2

"And to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one." 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

The blog, Pyromanics, doesn't need my help getting viewers. I wanted to share this post because it is near and dear to my heart. When it comes to politics, most Christians have distorted their calling. (Matthew 28:19)

"We must not be so engulfed in trying to force social behavior to conform to our standards that we become enemies of those our Lord has called us to win to Himself. We must reject sin and never compromise God's standards of righteousness.  But we also must never engage in defamation and denigration of the lost sinners who make up our corrupt culture.  When Christians become political, sinners become the enemy instead of the mission field." John MacArthur

"One of the greatest dangers of the political activism of the so-called "religious right" is this: It fosters a tendency to make enemies out of people who are supposed to be our mission-field, even while we're forming political alliances with Pharisees and false teachers." Phil Johnson

Getting Them ‘In Church’ is Not the Answer

"You see, most of our evangelism is just this, trying to get the lost into the pew. Our desire is that they get ‘in church,’ somehow believing that this is synonymous with a regenerate life. Church attendance can reveal regeneration, but it is not synonymous with regeneration." Full article HERE.
